What should I look for when I shop for Carando products?
- Make sure refrigerated meats are cold and frozen meats are solid when you buy them
- Don’t buy meats with torn, bulging, dented or cracked packaging
- Buy before the "use by" date on the package
- Buy cold meat last; take home and refrigerate immediately
What’s the best way to store products before using?
Products may be stored in the refrigerator until the "use by" date. Keep your refrigerator at, or below, 40° F. Freeze meat you won’t be using before the "use by" date. Frozen items may be stored for 3 to 6 months. Keep your freezer at 0° F.
What steps can I take to assure food safety while preparing meat?
Keep your cooking area clean, including hands, utensils, surfaces, etc. Use separate plates for preparing raw and cooked foods, and discard leftover marinades.
Can I thaw frozen pork in the microwave?
Yes, as long as you cook the meat immediately after thawing.
How long do I have to use the product once I've opened the package?
As a general rule, products should be eaten within 5 to 7 days once the package is opened.
